As Harald Rauen took over this winery in 1982, he immediately started to bottle the wines and sell it to private customers and retail shops rather than bulk as his father did. His next step was in the vineyards, reducing the number of vines per hectare and dropping the average yields, which has improved quality considerably. Finally, he completely modernized the cellar.

Gerd Petri is the thirteenth generation of his family to run this estate with top vineyards in Herxheim am Berg and Kallstadt. In his hands the estate has been making steady progress and won many awards for his wines, considered one of the best values in the Pfalz.

This is an estate of 66 hectares owned by Moillard in the communes of Lespignan and Colombiers. The vineyard is divided by varietal and is well exposed to the warm sun of the Languedoc. Vinified in stainless steel, 20% is then put into oak barrels and traditional vinification is followed. Named after the Cathare knight who reportedly held the Holy Grail and was killed by the Catholic Church. CERTIFIED ORGANIC.

This historic estate, which has been in the same family since the 15th century, owns 45 separate parcels of vines scattered throughout the Chateauneuf du Pape appellation. Virtually every type of soil is represented and 40-60 years are the average age of the vines. The top cuvee, Vin de Felibre is produced from very low yielding old vines.

After studying to be winemakers in Beaune, Helene & Jean-Pierre, in their late thirties, set up shop in the Northern Rhone in 2001. They practice sustainable viticulture, spreading organic fertilizer and refusing the use of insecticide. Thinning of the leaves, debudding & green harvesting are also practiced. The soils are sandy over granite with some pudding stones as well.

The Helfrich family has been making wine in Alsace for six generations and Joseph Helfrich started Les Grand Chais de France in 1979. The winery is located in Marlenheim just northwest of Strasbourg. The vineyards are located in the “Couronne d’Or” Golden Crown area of Strasbourg. The vineyards enjoy a southern exposure and a blend of red/pink sandstone as well as chalky clay soils.

With 8 generations of winemakers and 24 hectares planted on mineral soils composed of Clay and Flint, there are very old vines here, a portion of Pineau d’Aunis planted in 1890 and Chenin Blanc vines that are 80 years old. ORGANIC.

20 hectares of vines planted on the best and rarest of soils composed of Kimmeridgien. He is a farmer who does not speak English but he does speak wine and he makes this mineral Pouilly Fume.

Situated in the village of Verdigny, Pierre Riffault and his son Bertrand manage their 10 hectares of vineyards, making white, red and rose Sancerre. The soils are argilo-limestone with ground flint Caillottes. The wines are vinified in stainless steel tanks. The appellation of Sancerre covers 6,178 acres in total. The Riffault vineyards lie across from the hill on which the medieval town of Sancerre rests.

The entire Quincy AC covers only 180 hectares. This vineyard comprises 7 hectares and was established in 1993 by Jean-Charles Borgnat and is a family operation. Silver & Bronze Medal Winner.

This vineyard is located in the “Entre-Deux-Mers” where 80% of the wines produced are white. The estate consists of 60 hectares and also extends into soil that has the right to produce “Premieres Cotes de Bordeaux”.

The family estate was started in 1986 by Lyne and Jean-Bernard Marchive (Lyne’s family are the Tremblays of La Chapelle Vaupelteigne, an old established Chablis dynasty). They are enthusiastic about their vineyards which include 1 hectare of Vaudesir, 1/2 of Le Clos, 1.25 of Fourchaume, 1.18 of Montmains, 1.43 of Cote de Lechet, 3.5 of Vau de Vey, 1 of Petite Chablis, with the bulk of the estate, 14 hectares of Chablis Villages.

The Bernardo family has been producing wines for 7 generations now. Tthe vineyard comprises 15 hectares at an altitude of 350 meters and the wines are certified Agriculture Biologique; however, the US labels do not include that statement. Vine age for the Villages is 35-40 years old on average & vinified using carbonic maceration and aged in stainless steel. The Regnie is 60-80 yr old vines on sandy soil, vinified with carbonic maceration and aged in 1,2,3yr old oak barrels between 9-12 months depending on the vintage. ORGANIC.

The Negociant-Manipulant designation on these Champagnes is misleading. As a result of the Napoleonic laws, the vineyards were split within the family and Jean Pernet only buys grapes from his family members. It is in reality a Recoltant-Manipulant product that by law must state NM on the labels. The family vineyards are comprised of 40 acres in the villages of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Vertus and Chouilly (all 1st growth areas for Chardonnay) as well as Epernay, Chavot and Leuvvrigny.

Founded in 1948 in the hills of Asolo (Treviso), the Bedin family has been involved in winemaking for 3 generations. The Bedin brothers monitor each step of the winemaking process to ensure compliance with the highest quality standards.

Founded in 1974, this producer has 60 hectares under vines. Roberta Gorgo, the daughter of the founders is now managing the estate. The Bardolino Chiaretto Rose has a bright and seducing color; it stays on the skins for 15 hours. It is ideal for light lunches as is typical of the modern lifestyle. The Bardolino Superiore Monte Maggiore is not your father’s Bardolino, which was light and thin. This Bardolino is a richer wine with color and body. Starting with the 2018 vintage, all wines made by Gorgo are ORGANIC.

This is a tiny producer from the countryside of Rovereto with less than 10 acres under vine that produces grapes in a SUSTAINABLE, ecological manner. He also uses minimal sulphur to preserve the wine.

A family-owned winery now on their 4th generation, with 30 acres under vine and modern winemaking equipment.

With only 7 hectares under vine, the quantities of wine made are miniscule, in fact, it took some time to convince him to sell me a mixed pallet. Organic producer making wines with neglected local grapes such as Pignoletto and Negrettino at an altitude of 180 meters above sea level that borders on a Natural Park.

Around the beautiful agriturismo of Al Gelso Bianco in the town of Barberino Val d’Elsa lie groves of vines & olives trees from Fattoria Valacchi. The Senesi family re-established the vineyards, began bottling instead of selling in bulk. All of their wines are made with mostly indigenous varietals.

This farm has been in the Tornesi family since 1750. Before bottling his wines for the first time in 1996, Maurizio sold it in bulk. With an annual production of 8,500 bottles and high ratings from the Wine Spectator in recent vintages, this producer is in short supply.

Pago del Encinar is a project run by Javier Rodriguez, a famous oenologist in Spain and Francisco Ruiz. He introduced dramatic changes in wineries and most of them have experienced significant international growth thanks to his work. The vineyards are located at 500 m of altitude in a land considered the best in Rioja. It undergoes great temperature change from night to day giving the wine amazing fruit aromas and a deep color, which also has to do with Graciano (a late ripening varietal that is unfortunately disappearing from the region).

The Toro region is the only one where there are still pre-phylloxera estates due to the sandy soils, which stopped the pest from advancing. The Tempranillo was named Tinta de Toro in this valley because of its personality. The vineyard is located in San Roman de Hhornija, where the oldest parcels were chosen to make this riserva. Micro-oxygenation as well as cold maceration are the techniques utilized and the wine is aged in American, French and Hungarian barriques.

This 200 ha property, located 750 meters above sea level, has organic/vegan certification since 2018. Castillo de Aresan is the only property with 100% of its products organically farmed in the region.

The Awatare is a cooler sub-zone of the Marlborough and allows for excellent aromatics and complex fruit character. The winemaker is Judy Fowler from the highly acclaimed winery Puriri Hills. Governmaent certified Sustainable.

The land of Malbec, Lujan de Cuyo is at an altitude of 1050 meters above sea level, with hot days, cold nights and a semi-arid area has become known as one of the better regions for the cultivation of Malbec. The winery is a colaboration between Argentinean and Brazilian partners including Euclides Penedo Borges the President of the Brazilian Association of Sommeliers.

They are in the process of getting their ISO certification. 350 hectares in the mountains of Chile is a small-medium sized property for Chile.

Yorkville Cellars is located in the Yorkville Highlands AVA in southern Mendocino County basically above the Alexander Valley. We have two vineyards on our ranch: Randle Hill Vineyard is planted to Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon; Rennie Vineyard is the only known vineyard to have all six of the original “Noble Reds” of Bordeaux.
